Yip Man Biography:
Yip Man, also called Ip Man, was created on October 1, 1893, in Foshan, China. He studied Wing Chun and went on the become among the very revered martial arts masters of his time. Among his most famous pupils was Bruce Lee. Yip Man expired on December 2, 1972, in Hong Kong. In 2013, two movies about his life were released, The Grandmaster and Ip Man: The Final Fight.
He was the third of four kids and was raised by his rich parents, Ip Oi Dor and Ng Shui. But Guy would learn much from his teacher in the three brief years before Wah Shun’s departure. Man eventually returned to Foshan in the age of 24 and was used as a police officer. With this point, his Wing Chun abilities were such that he managed to start giving private lessons.
In 1949, when the Chinese Communist Party came to power, Man fled to Hong Kong, where he started a Wing Chun school, billing for his services and becoming the primary martial arts master to train pupils freely. One of Guy’s most famous pupils was Bruce Lee, who studied underneath the master in 1953. In the age of 13, Lee was an outstanding and extreme pupil and became expert in the Wing Chun artwork. Lee would come back to see Yip Man in later years, the two having become buddies. Yip Man was wed to Cheung Wing Sing, as well as the couple had two sons, Ip Chun and Ip Ching, both of whom became martial arts specialists. Guy died from complications of cancer on December 2, 1972, in Hong Kong. He was 79.
