After majoring in animation in the California Institute of Arts, he worked as a Disney animator at under a year before striking out by himself. He became known for creating visually stunning pictures that combine motifs of fantasy and horror, including Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Batman, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
As a kid, Burton was engrossed with all the classic horror movies of Roger Corman—many of which featured quintessential screen villain Vincent Price. Burton additionally acquired a penchant for drawing and registered in the California Institute of Arts, where he majored in cartoon. In 1980, upon his graduation, he started working as an apprentice animator for Walt Disney Studios. In 1994, Burton cast Johnny Depp as the title character in Ed Wood—a black and white portrait of a middling filmmaker and his all-consuming fire to succeed. Although critically praised (Martin Landau won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar because of his portrayal of a drug addicted Bela Lugosi), the movie did not appeal to mass audiences. Continuing along with his interest in ghoulish issues, Burton directed the film adaptation of the favorite musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street in 2007. The movie reunited Burton with longtime pal Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. All three received critical praise for his or her work on the movie, including several Golden Globe nominations.
Writer Seth Grahame-Smith written the script with this comic look at a vampire living among his descendants. Burton also mined his own youth for the animated movie Frankenweenie that same year. Pepe “only had a good spirit, that dog,” Burton told Entertainment Weekly. “The Frankenweenie character was not meant to look like him. It was more just the memory as well as the nature of him.”
Along with his filmwork, Burton shown over 700 drawings, paintings, along with other art at Nyc ‘s Museum of Modern Art in 2009 and 2010.
Burton continues to be involved with Apes star Bonham Carter since 2001. The couple got two kids, a son, Billy, produced in October 2003 as well as a daughter, Nell, produced in December 2007. In 2014, it had been reported the couple had split.
