In 1993, he became the secretary of business below the government of President Bill Clinton. He was the very first African American to serve as U.S. secretary of business. Raised in Harlem, Ny, he lived across the road in the famous Apollo Theater in a resort handled by his dad.
Brown attended Vermont’s Middlebury College. To help cover his costs, he worked part time in the institution. Brown was also an associate of the school’s track team. He soon began studying for his law degree from St. John’s University at nighttime. Former New York governor Mario Cuomo was one of his professors. To support himself, Brown took a place as a welfare caseworker for the City of Ny. He also joined the National Urban League.
