Rainier Louis Henri Maxence Bertrand de Grimaldi Biography:
Initially considered a playboy prince, he took control of the united states in 1949 and constructed Monaco into a global playground for the rich. He loved what was placed as a fairytale union with American movie star Grace Kelly. After Kelly’s tragic death in 1982, Rainier entombed himself in his work. He died at age 81 of lung as well as heart problems. His tradition goes back to 1297 when his daring Genoese ancestors assumed control of the rugged, narrow strip of land across the French Riviera.
Schooled in Switzerland and Britain, Prince Rainier eventually received his bachelor’s degree in the University of Montpellier, in France. He was decorated for valor and following the war delegated to the French military unit in Berlin. Monaco was near broke and had lost its luster through negligence and scandal. Moreover, much of Europe’s riches were lost during the Second World War and there was little left to gamble in the infamous casino, Monaco’s primary income source.
Nevertheless, he proved his detractors wrong when he set out to modernize the state together with the aid of Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis. Rainier marketed Monaco as a tax haven and international tourist attraction. He also resurrected the Grand Prix de Monaco, among the very prestigious automobile races on the planet. By 1964, he recovered control of the principality’s business transactions and resurrected its commercial and real estate markets. From the mid-1960s, he and Onassis had parted ways. The couple met in a palace picture shoot and tour while Kelly was attending the Cannes Film Festival. They had three kids Princess Caroline, Prince Albert II and Princess Stephanie. What was placed as a fairytale union further built Monaco’s reputation as a glamorous playground for the planet ‘s elite.

The enchanted picture was shattered in September, 1982, when an automobile Princess Grace was driving dropped over a cliff in the hills above Monaco. Initially considered to be a mechanical breakdown, it was later discovered the princess suffered a stroke. Additionally in the auto was her daughter, Princess Stephanie, who sustained serious harm.
After his own wife’s departure, Prince Rainier never remarried. Instead, he threw himself into his work and royal responsibilities. His kids grew up confronting scandals of their particular through much of the youth and early maturity. In the last years of his life, Rainier suffered from numerous health-related issues, fueled by his three-pack-a-day smoke custom. His son Prince Albert was at his side. In May 2014, the movie Grace of Monaco premiered at Cannes, starring Nicole Kidman and Tim Roth, depicting the wedding of Kelly and Prince Rainier in 1962. The royal family has issued an official statement greatly critiquing the work, labeling it as historic distortion.
