Paul Kasey Biography:
In 2005, Kasey joined the cast of the revived sci fi series Doctor Who. He is played several creatures on the show along with its spin off programs, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. Known for playing a large number of creatures, most notably about the BBC series Doctor Who, Kasey trained at Laine Theatre Arts in Surrey, England, where for four years he studied dancing, musical theater, performing and singing. He eventually earned his way on the cast of Grease in the Dominion Theatre in London, a steady show that ran for 2 years for Kasey. The character cast Kasey as a reaper, as well as the opportunity to play a creature thrilled the young performer.
“I ‘d such a fabulous time filming outside in Prague and playing the part, in addition to wearing the prosthetics, that I considered to myself, ‘If there was ever an opportunity to play more creatures, I’d jump in the chance and couldn’t reject the opportunity,'” Kasey said in a 2009 interview. Not long after, the actor got a part as an infected person in the 2002 movie 28 Days Later.
But it had been the 2005 relaunch of the most popular British sci fi series Doctor Who that propelled Kasey to mainstream popularity. Kasey has played a variety of creatures on the show, including Clockwork Android, The Hoix, the Cyber Leader as well as the Cybercontroller. By his own admission, Kasey wasn’t a massive Doctor Who fan when he first started working on the show, but that’s since transformed.
“I wasn’t what you’d call a committed Doctor Who fanatic, but as time has gone on, I am likely as much of a fan of the show because so many folks are here in Britain and all over the world,” the performer has said. “I believe Doctor Who … has had an enormous effect on British culture, likely more so now than ever before. I’d say there is not a kid, or adult for that matter, who wouldn’t want a Tardis in their back garden for themselves.” Unsurprisingly, Kasey’s Doctor Who work has generated other characters. His creature work has got him on some of spin off programs, The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood. On the latter show, he is played the recurring character of Janet the Weevil.
