Produced in 1962, Nick Rhodes grew up in Birmingham, England. He co-founded the group Duran Duran with John Taylor in the late 1970s. The next year, Rhodes and his bandmates had an international hit record Rio. The group released All You Require Is Now in 2010.
As the keyboardist for Duran Duran, Nick Rhodes became among the best music stars of the 1980s. He grew up in Birmingham, England, as the son of construction contractor. As a teen, Rhodes began playing in a group with longtime pal John Taylor in the 1970s. Rhodes, Taylor and Stephen Duffy formed a group that will evolve to the international sensation called Duran Duran. At Taylor’s idea, he changed his last name from Bates to Rhodes.
Vocalist Simon Le Bon came on board on the basis of the recommendation of his ex girlfriend, a bartender at Birmingham’s Rum Runner nightclub. They discovered guitarist Andy Taylor through an advertisement in a trade newspaper. The group took their distinguishing name in the villain “Dr. Durand Durand” in Roger Vadium’s 1968 sci fi cult classic Barbarella, starring Jane Fonda.
Duran Duran started their rise to superstardom within their native England in 1981, using the single “Planet Earth.” The exact same year, the group released the record Duran Duran, which sold more than 2 million copies.
