Niall Horan was born on September 13, 1993, in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. During his school years, he showed talent for singing and performing. In the age of 16, he auditioned for the television show The X Factor and was taken to the contest. Although he failed to make the last rounds as a solo vocalist, he joined forces with four other contestants to form the successful boy band One Direction.
His parents, Bobby and Maura Horan, divorced when he was a kid. He and his older brother, Greg, moved back and forth between their parents’ two homes before settling in using their dad.
He attended secondary school at Coliste Mhuire (Mary’s College), additionally in Mullingar. As a teen he performed in the Mullingar Arts Centre (in a fundraiser for the local football team, the Shamrocks) and in The Academy in Dublin.
In 2010, when he was 16 years old, Horan auditioned for the television talent contest The X Factor. He sang a variant of Ne Yo’s “So Sick” and was taken to the official contest.
Although One Direction failed to win the last round of The X Factor, the group promptly received a contract with Cowell’s label Syco and recorded its first album, Up All Night, which became a best seller in the UK in 2011 as well as America in the year 2012.
Horan is the sole One Way member born outside England, and he’s the 2nd youngest person in the group. He promises to be inspired by classic swing music and from the vocalist Michael Bubl. He’s known for his blond good looks and boy next door allure, and he’s been romantically linked with all the performers Demi Lovato and Freya Mavor, despite denying both gossips.
