Moshe Dayan Biography




As a young man, Moshe Dayan (created May 20, 1915) joined the Haganah—an illegal Jewish defense force—and was imprisoned by British authorities. After serving in Israel’s 1948 war of independence, he directed the invasion of Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula in 1956. A follower of David Ben-Gurion, Dayan was elected to parliament, served as minister of defense and was a primary architect of the Camp David Accords.
