Mary Theresa Eleanor Higgins Biography:

She released her first short story in 1956. Widowed in 1964 and with five kids to care for, Clark made a decision to try her hand at novels. Her first suspense novel, Where Are the Children? was an immediate bestseller. Clark was president of Mystery Writers of America and comes with an award named for her. She lives in Saddle River, New Jersey.

Higgins’ dad died when she was 11, and after she graduated from high school she was employed as a secretary to assist support the family as the second of three kids.

Mary started composing short stories and printed her first in 1956. Her husband died in 1964 leaving the youthful widow to take care of their five kids alone. She wrote four-minute radio scripts to assist pay the bills until her representative motivated her to try her hand at novels. Her first suspense novel, Where Are the Children?, was printed in 1975 and was an immediate bestseller.

During the the next couple of decades, the fecund Clark composed more than two dozen suspense novels that sold over 80 million copies in America alone. She’s the bestselling fiction writer in France and has held numerous places among mystery genre groups, including president of Mystery Writers of America and Chairman of the International Crime Congress. She’s in addition the inspiration for the Mystery Writers of America’s Mary Higgins Clark Award.

Two of her novels—Where Are the Children? and A Stranger Is Watching (1978)—have been made into movies. Additionally, several of her popular works, both short stories and novels, have now been made into television films. She continues the launch of her mystery novels using the publication Daddy’s Gone A Hunting (2013).

Outside of composing, Clark is a proud and effective Irish American Catholic, and was made a Dame of the Order of St. Gregory the Great, a papal honour. She also functions as an Honorary Chairman of FraXa Research, an organization dedicated to finding appropriate medicine to treat Fragile X syndrome, a state that one among her kids suffers from.

Her memoir, Kitchen Privileges, was printed in 2003.
