Jonathan Edwards Biography

Created October 5, 1703, Jonathan Edwards studied divinity at Yale College before taking the pulpit in Northampton, Massachusetts. His sermons and writings adopted the concept of free will, as well as a strong assurance in God’s righteousness. Through the ardent Great Awakening, Edwards became a lighting rod to get a movement that became a prevalent spiritual revival. Edwards became known broadly for his fiery sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” which implored parishioners to adopt the teachings of Jesus Christ before they were banished to hell as nonbelievers.
