John Ringling North Biography:

Circus and after that purchased the Barnum & Bailey Circus, efficiently managing the biggest circus in America. Ringling used his riches to get in and develop Sarasota County, Florida. He died in the age of 70 on December 2, 1936 in Sarasota, Florida. In addition to his six brothers five elderly and one smaller and younger sister, Ringling was raised in Baraboo, Wisconsin. They brought in some cash and embarked on a journey to construct their very first official circus; in 1884, the Ringling Bros. Circus came to be.

To be able to make their circus a success, all the five brothers had a peculiarity: Ringling supervised transport. By 1895, the Ringling Bros. Circus had traveled throughout the united states and earned a reputation as an important rival for the strong Barnum& Bailey Circus. They ran the circuses as independent things until 1919, when their business was renamed to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Ringling wished to make Sarasota the “house of his circus empire,” according to Sarasota County historians, and invested in the county starting around 1910. Ringling “wielded unbelievable influence on the market, growth, culture and nature” of the county, historians said.

In addition to his brother, Charles, Ringling purchased about 67,000 acres of what’s now Sarasota and Longboat Key as investment property. Along with his own wife, Mable, Ringling spent two years and about $1.5 million to construct their mansion, named C d’Zan. The estate was given to the state of Florida as a present after Ringling’s death in 1936, though it was not entirely made accessible to the people for another ten years due to problems surrounding the circus leader’s previous debts. In 2000, the property was put underneath the auspices of the Florida State University. In the mid-1920s, Ringling, said to function as the fifth richest guy in the united states, and his wife created the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. He willed the museum and his whole art collection to the state, as well. John Ringling died of pneumonia on December 2, 1936 in his house in Nyc, Ny.
