In 1997, Ridley released his first novel Stray Dogs. Ridley went to work on such shows as Barbershop and such movies as Undercover Brother.
Produced in Wisconsin in 1965, John Ridley is a top African American writer, director and producer. He’s composed and produced for both television and movie. Ridley started out on the little screen, composing for the situation comedy Martin starring Martin Lawrence in the early 1990s. He soon moved to The John Larroquette Show, employed as a writer as well as a producer.
Changing to more sensational fare, Ridley made his directorial debut with all the crime thriller Cold Around the Heart (1997). He also wrote the screenplay for the movie, which stars David Caruso and Kelly Lynch. The exact same year, Ridley published his first novel Stray Dogs. The novel became a movie by Oliver Stone called U Turn (1997).
During the the next couple of years, Ridley released several more novels, including Everybody Smokes in Hell (1999) and Drift (2002). Among his stories was used as the foundation for 1999 Iraq war movie Three Kings starring George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg and Ice Cube. Around now, another of his creative efforts was brought to the big screen.
On television, Ridley continued to exhibit the variety of his abilities. He worked with Emilio Estevez about the picture Bobby (2006), functioning as a producer with this assessment to the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy. Illustrating just how gifted he’s, Ridley released a comic book he wrote entitled The American Way the next year.
Working with manager Steve McQueen, Ridley helped bring among the very critically acclaimed movies of 2013 to the big screen. Ejiofor plays Solomon Northup, a free black man who’s kidnapped and sold into captivity. Ridley used Northup’s memoirs with this version of an actual life story.
Along with 12 Years a Slave, Ridley debuted another one of his jobs in 2013: He directed and composed All Is By My Side, a biographical film about rock star Jimi Hendrix. Andr Benjamin, better known as Andr 3000, plays Hendrix in the film. The movie is scheduled to release nationally in September 2014. In January 2014, news broke that Ridley had got a deal to get a pilot to get a brand new television series, American Crime, for the ABC television network.
