Produced on August 22, 1973, in Orlando, Florida, Howie Dorough went from little film parts and Disney advertisements to singing in the front of huge crowds as an associate of the Backstreet Boys. He is continued to get little acting jobs while making music along with his boy band and as a solo artist. The wedded father can also be involved with advocacy for lupus knowledge after losing his sister to the illness.
Howie’s tradition is part Irish (his father’s side) and component Latin (his mother’s side, who hails from Puerto Rico). The youthful lad gravitated to performing, including singing in the school and church choirs along with acting in several local theater troupes. Little parts followed for him in movies such as the comedies Parenthood and Cop and Half. But something much larger was brewing for the star.
In April of 1992, Howie Dorough auditioned for the Backstreet Boys underneath the name Tony Donetti. Gossip has it that he was chosen but his contact information was lost and his assumed name caused confusion. He allegedly went for another audition several months afterwards, and then find he had been chosen and they were searching for him. Dorough already understood bandmate AJ McLean, from a talent show as well as the local audition circuit. Nick Carter, as well as cousins Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell, finished the group. After building up a European fan base, the fivesome put out their debut record stateside.
Dorough was the last of the Backstreet Boys to put out an album by himself after several years of making hits together with his group. He started in 2006 using a record focusing on Spanish/Latin tunes but nixed it because the path did not look right. Fellow Backstreet Boy crooner Nick Carter co-wrote among the tunes.
Joyful in every area of life, a glad Dorough desires to give back to others. He found the Dorough Lupus Foundation to boost cash for the disease that took his sister Caroline’s life in 1998. Another of his causes is mentoring up and coming musicians, like George Nozuka, Neverest and Dan Talevski. “I understand I was given help, and that I want to share what I Have learned,” said Dorough on his official website.
