Art Dilks Biography:
Horace Greeley was born on February 3, 1811, in Amherst, New Hampshire. He founded The New Yorker in 1834 and became a contributing writer, supplementing his income by writing for the Whig Party. In 1841, he began the New York Tribune. Greeley became a leader of the Liberal Republican Party in 1872 and later ran for the U.S. presidency as a Liberal Republican, but expired on November 29, 1872, in Pleasantville, New York, before the electoral votes were counted (and his likely defeat).
