Dennis Haskins was born on November 18, 1950, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Haskins graduated in 1968 from Notre Dame High School, where he was an extraordinary basketball player. He went to attend the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where, along with playing basketball, he joined the theatre section and became an associate of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Haskins flourished in school, becoming societal chair of his fraternity and eventually amusement chairman of the university itself.
After school, Haskins was employed as a concert promoter, affiliate with groups like Earth Wind and Fire as well as the Charlie Daniels Band. Following a stint in the music business, Haskins chose to give acting a chance and moved to La, California, in 1980. He was employed as a bit actor to get a time, earning modest parts on several television series, including The Dukes of Hazard and The Twilight Zone.
It was not until 1988 that Haskins got a recurring character: as Mr. Richard Belding, a junior high school principal, on a Disney show entitled Good Morning, Miss Bliss.
