Produced in the Bathgate section of West Lothian, Scotland, on April 18, 1971, David Tennant included playing at an extremely young age. After playing in school plays and attending drama school, he went to work with the stage, as well as in movie and television. He was cast as the 10th embodiment of the lead character of the Doctor, in Britain’s smash science fiction television program Doctor Who. Tennant continues to focus on the stage and screen, and has done famous voiceover work.
As a kid, his favourite program was the British sci fi strike Doctor Who. He appeared in school plays and was discovered by celebrity Edith MacArthur in his first role at age 11. At 16 the youthful performer auditioned, and was taken, in the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, among the youngest pupils to be acknowledged.
Tennant appeared in ads as a youthful performer; his early professional work contained a theatrical production of The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui by the 7:84 Theatre Company, and a part as a manic depressive in the Scottish TV drama show Takin’ Over the Asylum (1994).
A long-held wish came true in 2005, when Tennant was cast as the 10th embodiment of the lead character the Doctor in Doctor Who, his precious TV program from youth. The BBC-produced show also offers a world-wide audience and is recorded on the Guinness World Records website as the longest-running science fiction television show on the planet. As a little bit of British pop culture iconography, the show cemented Tennant’s popularity. As well as playing the lead character, the performer was given the chance to direct episodes.
In 2009, Tennant won a Critics Choice Award for The Best Shakespearean Performance because of his portrayal of Hamlet for the RSC.
He’s also appeared in added ads, including a substantial Virgin Media effort, as well as in political commercials.
Tennant’s mom, Helen, died of cancer in 2007, inspiring his involvement as a star assistant of the Association for International Cancer Research. He’s married to celebrity Georgia Moffett, with whom he’s a daughter, Olive. He additionally adopted Moffett’s son, Tyler. Tennant is extremely guarded about his personal relationships and private life.
