David Michael Navarro Biography:

Produced in 1967 in Santa Monica, California, Dave Navarro joined the alternative rock group Jane’s Addiction as its lead guitarist at age 19. He climbed to acclaim within the powerful group, but Jane’s Addiction broke up in 1991 on the heels of Lollapalooza, that was set up by bandmate Perry Farrell. Navarro joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1993, but left the group in 1998 after recording just one record. Since that time, he’s played using a host of other musical artists and contains also went to the TV world, hosting such shows as Rock Star: INXS, Rock Star: Supernova and Ink Master.

His parents divorced when he was youthful, and Navarro grew up as an only child, residing together with his mom. He took up piano when he was 6 or 7 years old but changed to guitar around age 11 after his dad located him an acoustic guitar in a garage sale. Navarro was shortly subjected to various rock music artists, and he found himself under the sway of such musicians as Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton.

Navarro subsequently started playing electric guitar, and his musical interests branched out into alternative sounds, including Bauhaus and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Only at that time, he also met Stephen Perkins, his future Jane’s Addiction bandmate. Navarro and Perkins formed a group and played at local nightclubs briefly beneath the name Dizastre.

These years were also marked by personal tragedy for Navarro. In March 1983, his mom was killed by her ex boyfriend, and he later moved in along with his dad and coped with the loss through his music. He also turned to drugs and shortly found himself fighting at school. (His mom’s killer was about the run for a long time before the TV show America’s Most Wanted featured her narrative, which resulted in his capture and sentencing in 1996.)

Stephen Perkins was in a group called Jane’s Addiction with singer/songwriter Perry Farrell, and they wanted a fresh guitarist. After playing together with the group several times, Dave Navarro joined the group in 1986, as well as the Jane’s Addiction lineup the rock world would come to understand was born. The exact same year, Jane’s Addiction got their first big break when Love and Rockets heard among their cassettes and encouraged them to open for their sake on their 1987 tour.

Jane’s released a self-titled live album in 1987, which created buzz for the group, and before they understood it, a bidding war to sign them was happening between record labels. The group signed with Warner Bros. Records and released Nothing’s Shocking in 1988.

A couple of years after, the group released Ritual de lo Habitual to much fanfare, but the group was already coming apart at the seams as a result of drug use and character clashes. Following the Lollapalooza tour, Jane’s played their last shows in September 1991, just as anxiety, drug addiction and clashing egos were breaking up the group.

He recorded just one record using the Peppers, 1995’s One Hot Minute, which was successful but never completely caught on. Navarro rejoined Jane’s Addiction’s for a short U.S. tour in 1997 and stop the Red Hot Chili Peppers shortly after the tour wrapped up, the burst with the Peppers never quite there.

In 2001, Jane’s Addiction once again went on a reunion tour and also this time released an album, Strays. Navarro additionally that year came out with Trust No One, his solo debut. The group toured through 2003 but broke up again in 2004, mentioning the last clash of selves as the motives.

Never quite ceasing, Jane’s Addiction played together several times over the forthcoming years, beginning in the New Music Express Awards in 2008 and following having a show opening for Nine Inch Nails the next year. In 2011, they recorded another record, The Great Escape Artist, and went on tour to encourage it.

He also has appeared on numerous TV shows, hosting Rock Star: INXS, Rock Star: Supernova as well as the tat show Ink Master.
