He grew up copying his favourite comics including Bill Cosby and Johnny Carson. In 1990, he began performing in comedy clubs and released his first record in 2003. His second record went, Retaliation (2005), went double platinum, becoming the most used humor record in almost 30 years. Following the success of his sophomore record, Cook has continued his active career as a comic and transitioned into movie, starring in Employee of the Month (2006) and Mr. Brooks (2007).
As a child, he’d perform stand up for his family, often mimicking his favourite TV comedians like Bill Cosby and Johnny Carson. He started performing in comedy clubs in 1990 and got a spot on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend in 1998. It was the first of many collaborations using the cable network as well as the start of Cook’s rise to popularity.
In 2003, Cook released his first full length comedy album, Harmful If Swallowed. Early in his career, he found DaneCook.com to boost his work and remain personally joined to his supporters. He was also among the very first stars to put in a profile to MySpace. That year, he founded Superfinger Entertainment to be able to create his own records as well as videos.
Cook’s legions of fans have made him one of the most popular comics on the market, evidenced by three sold out shows at Madison Square Garden in 2006. After that year, he starred in an HBO special, Vicious Circle, that has been filmed in his hometown.
