In 2005, he was cast as Darryl Philbin to the American variant of The Office. Robinson has appeared on several further shows, and has starred in such comedic movies as Hot Tub Time Machine and Pineapple Express.
His dad was an attorney and his mom was a music teacher. Raised on Chicago’s South Side, Robinson shared his mom’s love for music as he grew up. He attended Illinois State University and Saint Xavier University, earning the degrees he’d have to educate music. After graduating, he started working as an elementary school music teacher.
Craig Robinson performed as a comedian while residing in Chicago. He also took improv and acting courses at The Second City, the organization that created such ability as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. As a regular cast member with this popular, long-running show, Robinson developed significant publicity. He also appeared in smaller parts on different programs, including Arrested Development, Reno 911! and Eastbound & Down.
Along with his TV work, Robinson has appeared in several films. The majority of these have been comedies, including Pineapple Express, Hot Tub Time Machine and Here Is the Ending. He also expressed the character of Cookie in the animated Shrek film show.
In his early years as a comic, Robinson performed with Jerry Minor as the musical duet L. Witherspoon & Chucky. Robinson can also be an associate of the group Nasty Delicious. They appeared on the show Last Comic Standing as well as in a episode of The Office. Also, Robinson sings “Jesse’s Girl” and “Let’s Get It Started” around the Hot Tub Time Machine soundtrack.
Since 2006, Robinson has been arrested multiple times for intoxication along with the possession of controlled substances. He was put on probation in 2006 following a drunk driving event. Robinson pleaded guilty and agreed to take drug education courses.
