Brian Manion Dennehy Biography:
Celebrity Brian Dennehy was born on July 9, 1938, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Among his first movie roles was in searching for Mister Goodbar (1977). Dennehy went to play in more than 60 pictures and 70 television characters.
As a student at Chaminade High School in the suburban town of Mineola, Ny, Dennehy was best called a star football player.
After Dennehy graduated from Yale, he joined the Marines. Of his years of service, he told The New York Times, “I owe a great deal to the Marine Corps. A way of understanding how awful things can get… I learned how to be powerful.”
Dennehy first wed in 1959, when he was 21 years old. He along with his wife Judith welcomed daughters Elizabeth, Kathleen and Deirdre in quick sequence. On the span of the union, Dennehy held a sequence of occupations, from bartending to truck driving, to make ends meet. He regularly juggled several occupations simultaneously, just finding time to audition for acting parts. In 1974, Brian and Judith divorced. Fourteen years after, Dennehy wed costume designer Jennifer Arnot, with whom he had two kids, Cormack and Sarah.
It wasn’t until Dennehy was 35 years old that he could make an income at playing. “I constantly had two or three jobs, but I always desired to do this instead,” Dennehy told The New York Times of his early battles to eventually become an actor.
1977 was a breakthrough year in Dennehy’s performing profession. Not only did he get a Maytag television advertisement (among others), however he also took on some of small parts in major movies, including Semi Tough and Looking for Mr. Goodbar.
Dennehy’s casting directors were so impressed with his work he was later given routine playing duties on the little and big displays. A wide-chested and physically imposing figure who stands 6 feet 2 inches, Dennehy naturally acquired a penchant for tough guy characters through the 1980s and 1990s. The performance garnered Dennehy among the six Emmy nominations he’d receive throughout his profession.
Given his butch reputation, Dennehy took audiences by surprise with his unforgettably heartfelt dramatic stage performance in 1999. Starring as Willy Loman in the play Death of a Salesman, Dennehy took home the Most Effective Actor Tony that year.
To date, Brian Dennehy has starred in more than 60 pictures and 70 television characters. Along with performing, he’s composed, produced and directed several television shows and films. He continues to work nonstop. Contained among Dennehy’s recent performances are characters in the movies Factory 9 (2009) and The Next Three Days (2010). Since 2008, he along with his wife Jennifer have resided in Woodstock, Connecticut, the state where Dennehy was born.
