According to some reports, his three-year stint on the show was not always simple. In a 1988 TV Guide article, his mom, Kathleen Bonsall, expressed anxiety over how Brian was handled on the set. “One of my issues is the fact that people handle him too much as an adult occasionally,” said his mom, an aspiring performer who also worked as Brian’s supervisor. “If Brian is doing something interesting and must quit for work, they say he does not need to be here. But he wants to perform. If he did not, I wouldn’t have him here. I would like a healthier kid.”
Bonsall retired from playing in 1995 and registered in high school in Colorado. There, he acquired an interest in punk music. He later began several punk bands, including Late Bloomers and Thruster. In 2007, he made headlines for allegedly attacking his girlfriend. He’d several more run ins with the law on the years that followed, leading to assault and drug possession charges.
