Billie Joe Armstrong Biography:
Produced in 1972, Billie Joe Armstrong began performing at a youthful age. Outside of Green Day, he’s performed and recorded with Pinhead Gunpowder. More recently, Armstrong and Norah Jones released Foreverly in 2013.
He could be the youngest of six kids and grew up in Rodeo, California, a blue collar town near Berkeley. Armstrong began singing as a kid as well as recorded a tune when he was just 5 years old. His father, a musician as well as a truck driver, gave him his first guitar. Armstrong was just 10 years old when his dad died of cancer. This is a great loss for the musician, and he afterwards wrote about his dad’s passing in the tune “Wake Me Up When September Ends.”
Round the time of his dad’s passing, Armstrong met Mike Dirnt (initially Michael Pritchard). The pair shared a love of punk rock, particularly the Ramones as well as the Sex Pistols. They later formed their very own group, which was first known as Sweet Children and afterwards became Green Day. Armstrong was still in high school when they initially started playing shows, however he eventually dropped out. Armstrong performed at little punk clubs in California along with his group, which comprised John Kiftmayer on drums in the time. The group finally got a deal with Lookout! Records, an independent label, and Green Day put out their very first EP in 1989.
