Audra McDonald was born on July 3, 1970 in West Berlin, Germany, using the family stationed there as element of her father’s military work. They eventually went to back to the states, settling in Fresno, California.
McDonald came from a totally musical family, with both of her parents being musicians and her aunts forming a touring gospel group through the 1970s called The McDonald Sisters. The youthful McDonald took to acting during her primary school years, doing local theatre work as well as her sister Alison. Audra finally attended a performing arts high school and went on to Juilliard in Nyc, graduating in 1993.
