Raised by his dad in Highland Park, a suburb of La, California, Ruben Cavazos became a members of an L.A.-based Mexican American street gang known as the Ave at a youthful age. Not long after, he joined the Mongols Motorcycle Club (also called the Mongol State or Mongol Brotherhood—a group long-connected with organized crime in California. With this time, Cavazos was going from the nickname “Doc”—a moniker he’d been given for his more openly known function as a accredited radiology tech.
