James Edward Olliges, Jr. Biography:

He could be the lead vocalist, guitarist and primary songwriter for the alternative rock band My Morning Jacket. He also pursued a solo career below the name Yim Yames. In 2008, James was severely injured when he fell off a stage while performing in Iowa. The very first single James purchased was “Leader of the Band” by Dan Fogelberg. He’s been a lifelong Beatles fan, having a particular kinship for George Harrison’s work. James said that Michael Jackson’s Thriller altered the manner he thought about music. He also comes with an affinity to socially aware groups.

Before forming My Morning Jacket, James was the vocalist and guitarist of Month of Sundays, also called Mont de Sundua. In the early 2000s, he pursued a solo career below the name Yim Yames. He made his solo debut with 2009’s Homage To, a quick number of George Harrison covers that James recorded soon after the Beatles lead guitarist’s departure in 2001.

Since forming in 1998, Louisville, Kentucky–based My Morning Jacket is now one of America’s most popular diverse rock bands, often touring the united states. Their very first record, The Tennessee Fire, premiered in 1998, a rock ‘n’ roll group with country rock influence. It was fairly well received in the United States but became a big hit abroad. 2001’s At Dawn helped the group gain popularity back home in the States.

Over time, My Morning Jacket’s music has grown from their country and rock origins to adopt funk, reggae and psychedelic sounds. The group remained active touring during the early 2000s, and bound to important record label RCA/ATO Records for the 2003 launch of the critically acclaimed It Still Moves. Adding synthesizers and reggae overtones shown the group’s experimental side. Following the launch of 2008’s Evil Urges, members of the band pursued their particular jobs, and James joined the indie group Monsters of Folk.

In 2008, James was severely injured when he fell off the stage while performing in Iowa. The injury forced the group to cancel the remainder of the tour, but it led to some productive time for James. My Morning Jacket got back together for 2011’s Circuital, recording the record in an area church’s gymnasium. “That’s likely my favourite My Morning Jacket record as it is actually the essence of us being us,” James said in a Rolling Stone interview. Between 2003 and 2013, the group played seven times in the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, a four-day event held yearly in Manchester, Tennessee.
