Gerard Adams Biography:
He took part in the Catholic civil rights demonstrations of his home area before being imprisoned as a suspected IRA leader. After his release, he turned to political ways of calling for Irish union and autonomy as the head of Sinn Fin, with the Belfast Agreement finally signed in 1998. Adams can also be a famous writer. The big family was of Catholic history, and years after Adams wrote of the persecution endured by the area ‘s spiritual minority under British command.
Ireland, or the Irish Republic, obtained the right to self governance in the early 1920s as an outcome of the Anglo-Irish Treaty, while the mainly Protestant six counties of Northern Ireland remained part of Great Britain. Catholic, or nationalist, parties pushed for union of N. Ireland with the Irish Republic. The Adams family members were known activists, though it was later shown that Adams’ dad was a physically and sexually violent existence in the house, with one of Adams’ brothers facing similar claims at the same time.
