Cheryl Strayed was born in Spangler, Pennsylvania, on September 17, 1968. She graduated from your University of Minnesota and earned a graduate degree in fiction writing from Syracuse University. Her first novel, Torched, debuted in 2006, as well as the autobiographical work paved the method for Wild, a memoir of Strayed’s life-altering hike on the Pacific Crest Trail. The film version is slated for 2014.

Initially Cheryl Nyland, Cheryl Strayed was born on September 17, 1968, in Spangler, Pennsylvania. When she was young, her family moved to McGregor, Minnesota, where Strayed afterwards attended McGregor High School. During her high school years, the homecoming queen and cheerleader fought with an eating disorder, which she beat in her college years.

She began keeping a diary in her 20s, something which would one day significantly affect her future as a writer. Another touchstone that will color her life and writing was the 1991 passing of her mom, who had been just 45. Her mom’s death from cancer devastated Strayed, and she started to unravel, which led to your divorce and heroin use. Pulling herself up eventually, she chose to wipe the slate clean distinctively.

Remarking on composing Wild, Strayed said, “After I finished my hike on the PCT, the narrative I most desperately needed to tell was the one I told in my first novel, Torch. I believe the years between my raise and writing about it made for a much better novel.”

The exact same year, Strayed shown that she was “Sugar,” the formerly anonymous on-line advice columnist for The Rumpus’ extremely popular “Beloved Sugar” column.
